DELEGATES OF POVERTY by Eval Rexson Vincen

Seen in the streets as shapes of despair
Sparsely everywhere but are nowhere
Their delicacy in varieties for every class
Affluenza makes their expulsion difficult
These traders in life are not expendable

Hunger twines them like web
Depression strips their hope for bread
Fate strangles their gallows sense of humor
Fostering the early ugly expression of agedness
Disguised in the smiles of hopeful hopelessness

Unrelentingly for survival they contest
Subjugated in an apocalypse by the wealthy
Ravenously in shanty towns there reside
the greedy turn these residents to rubbish dump
While they ravishingly hide in peace less mansions

Crushed in the beauty of insanity
Colour Rioting, dressed in children’s clothes
Happily stitched together from different glitzy rags
Parading the streets in satisfaction of ignorance
Proudly marching as the future hopes.

Streets are the hub of the fathers finance
Akara and bread is the breakfast for lunch
Newspaper is the enmity of the low class
Embezzlements of National funds, radios unsay
No truth in the news, no news in the truth (hendiadys)

He Observed the problems of the mothers
But they said he lied it wasn’t the fathers
Economy isn’t always fair with kitchen
Meals eaten rarely, with obstacles their delight
Water and salt added morning assured.

Demise always like words erased from sand
No voices to wail and sing funeral songs
No sirens to convey the corpse to grave
Three feet sometimes to earth they rest
There are the delegates of poverty.

 TONGUE by Eval Rexson Vincent

Behind the tooth it lays detain
Indispensable tool to human endowed
Bestial in speech if not tame or restrain
For good this organ is in us bestowed

Hearts and minds are not transparent
Therefore to the world our thoughts it conveys.
Tender in words and poisonous like serpent.
Her damages would never have surveys.

Spoken words can never return
As seeds on earth she becomes sown
Widely and dangerously hurtful words burn
Then we wished words were withdrawn

In the saddle it is to condemn or curse
To pervasively spread rumors or baloney
To mudsling, backbite, quarrel, and criticize
Contrariwise to appreciate, praise, bless, pray.

Sagaciously peace and truth it can also set
Whereas Tongue becomes mans worst bane
Would it speak for what not who is right
When its scotch is but death alone.
